President Obama announced yesterday that between now and Summer of 2012, 30,00 US troops will be pulled out Afghanistan and that the new plan in to make our own country a priority. Not that I'm not an advocate of this, but we should've been doing this years ago. The deficit is ignorant and at the end of the day the countries that we have poured the most cheddar into still hates us. I'm happy that Libya was able to find a solution without dragging us 100% into their issues, but Pakistan will never be the same.
On another note, there is a retired cop from NYC, Staten Island actually, that is in the works of constructing a memorial by true definition for those that were lost on 9/11 on Staten Island itself. Not to be insensitive and I know some of you are thinking they are building one at ground zero, but that unfortunately has all the features of being another tourist attraction (they're charging $25 entry, seriously??) and source of income for the city and completely void of providing comfort that those who suffered a loss need but still may never feel.
Ten years later, and the loss is just as great. I'm sure the death (assasination) of Osama Bin Laden has created a touch of closure or reparation if you will, but it can not fill the void especially for those were never able to recover a shred of evidence that there loved ones were even there.
I am not nor have I ever been immediately affected by this war in the sense of having a loved one shipped away, but I do have friends, and my friends have friends that have taken on a task/mission that I can honestly say I could only fathom. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families, victims, survivors, widows(ers), and troops. May you find peace and may you return home safely.
So.......
Like it, love it, or hate it. This is mine, not yours. This is me, not you. And this is real!
